Marathon and Terrain Descriptions

Half Marathon:

Starting at the James C. “Bunny” Sheffield Memorial Olympic Skating Oval on Main Street, the route will head North, through the center of Lake Placid’s business district. The course will proceed along Mirror Lake Drive, around the back side of Mirror Lake. Runners will continue on Mirror Lake Drive, turning left on to Parkside Drive and continue until it meets Route 73 South. Continuing out on Route 73, runners will pass the North Elba Horse Show Grounds and the Olympic Ski Jumping complex, where runners will then turn left onto River Road. After running out on River Road, runners will turn around and loop back, returning to Route 73. Runners will turn right and run back toward the North Elba Horse Show Grounds.

Half Marathon Terrain:

elevation 1

The course starts on a gentle uphill, becoming flat for the next 2 miles. From Parkside Drive, the course is mostly downhill or flat, with a short, mild up hill grade around mile 4. The course is again, mostly flat or downhill on to River Road which is an out and back. The only hill (which you will run down at around the 5.5 mile point) is just before mile 12. This is a fairly long (not in Adirondack terms, but relative to this course) hill. The last 1+ mile is flat, with the finish on the grass.
